HMRC have released their tax statistics for the year 2020-21. There was a £200m increase in inheritance tax receipts compared to the previous year - £5.3bn being paid in 2020-21. In contrast property related taxes (SDLT and ATED) dropped by £2.9bn - some of this due to less movement in property (market uncertainty, fall in property sales) and some due to the SDLT holiday. Covid-19 continues to have an impact on the Country as a whole but the financial impact will have repercussions for many years I'm sure. I predict some changes in the IHT and SDLT regimes over the next few years. Watch this space....
