The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act uses language similar to the EU and UK GDPR. If the Act passes, it'll add to the safeguards protecting personal data.
This could be a step in the right direction towards an adequacy decision for the US. This would make transferring personal data between UK based businesses to the US easier.
For now, businesses must check they are protecting personal data before transferring it to the US. Without appropriate safeguards like transfer agreements you could be fined by the ICO, as happened to Meta / Facebook recently.

The Texas legislature passed the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, making it the sixth state to pass a comprehensive data privacy law this year. The Act shares many similarities with Virginia, although there are some distinctions. If signed into law, the Act would take effect on July 1, 2024.
